Civil society groups call on the European Union to withdraw its demands for the expansion of the World Trade Organization at the upcoming Fifth Ministerial Conference in Mexico
July 14, 2003
European Union (EU) trade ministers met last week in Palermo, Italy to discuss their negotiating position in advance of the approaching World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial, which takes place in Cancun, Mexico in September. At this somewhat informal meeting, the ministers and EU Trade Commissioner Pascal Lamy discussed a common position that Lamy will defend at the upcoming Ministerial.
CIEL signed onto a joint NGO statement that was presented to the trade ministers stating the need to halt the push for an expanded WTO agenda. Read the full statement on the Investment Watch website (left hand column).
