From 29 October to 1 November 2006 CIEL participated in the UN-sponsored Sixth International Conference of New and Restored Democracies (ICNRD-6) held in Doha, Qatar. In the panel discussions "Participatory Governance: Transparency and Accountability" and "Democratization, International Institutions and Global Governance" CIEL stressed the importance of transparency and public participation in international institutions and processes, focusing particularly on trade and investment dispute settlement processes.
