Delphine Levi Alvares
Global Petrochemicals Campaign Manager
Delphine Lévi Alvarès (she/her) is the Global Petrochemicals Campaign Manager in CIEL’s Fossil Economy program, based in Brussels (Belgium). Her work focuses primarily on coordinating the implementation of the Break Free from Plastic movement’s global petrochemicals strategy and fostering synergies with other movements fighting industries related to petrochemicals, to build united strategies and aligned efforts to confront an industry that has become the lifeline of the fossil fuel industry driving the climate and biodiversity crises, and by halting its expansion protect people and the planet.
Prior to joining CIEL in February 2023, Delphine served as European coordinator for the Break Free from Plastic movement, for over 6 years. She played a central role in the foundation of the movement since its inception in 2016, uniting more than 110 European organizations under a common vision. She was a driving force behind the development of the global movement’s holistic strategy in 2016-2017, linking Europe to the broader global movement, and was instrumental in shaping the petrochemicals workstream of the movement. In 2017, Delphine worked to create, and coordinated for 5 years, the Rethink Plastic alliance, a Brussels-based policy coalition working on plastic pollution issues across the European Union, which played a crucial role in securing ambitious legislation on single-use plastics at the European level.
Delphine holds a Bachelor in History, a master’s degree in European Politics and a master’s degree in Sustainable Development Engineering. She has been a guest lecturer in various academic courses, where she shares her passion for advocacy, narrative change and embodied leadership.
