Conor MacDonald
Staff Attorney, Financial Strategies
Conor MacDonald (he/him/his) is Staff Attorney, Climate Financial Strategies in CIEL’s Climate & Energy program, based out of the Washington, D.C. office. His work focuses primarily on financially-based efforts to secure climate action in the United States.
Before joining CIEL, he supported the Cape Cod Center for Sustainability on their campaign to facilitate climate action by state pension plans, primarily through their fiduciary duty to impartiality to all generations, and also through the defense of pension trustees’ discretion to direct investments toward climate goals. He has worked in renewable energy development, facilitating sales, leases, and regulatory compliance for developers; land use law; and immigration law. Before becoming an attorney, he worked for ten years in civic and professionally-oriented nonprofits.
Conor holds a Bachelor of Finance and Economics from Lehigh University, an Masters of Arts in Public Humanities and Cultural Heritage from Brown University, and a Juris Doctor from Roger Williams University School of Law. He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar.
Currently, he serves on the board of DownCity Design, a youth-focused organization which builds career and civic skills in Providence, Rhode Island. Otherwise, he’s cycling on Rhode Island’s East Bay Bike Path, digging and clipping in the garden, or playground-hopping with his niece and nephew.
