2004 International Environmental Law Award Recipient – Alexandre Charles Kiss
The 2004 CIEL Award was presented to Alexandre Charles Kiss, a highly accomplished and prolific scholar and activist in the field of international environmental law. Professor Kiss was highly regarded as a pioneer in research on international environmental law. He taught law at the Robert Schuman University of Strasbourg in France, served as Director of Research Emeritus of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, and was President of the European Council for Environmental Law. He also acted as consultant to numerous international organizations, including UNEP, UNESCO, Council of Europe, OECD, and the Brundtland Commission.
Professor Kiss passed away in March, 2007.
