Jane Patton
Campaign Manager, US Fossil Economy
Jane Patton (she/her) is the US Fossil Economy Campaign Manager, and her work supports the Fossil Economy program in confronting the harmful impacts and false promises of the broader oil and gas economy, including from petrochemicals, agrochemicals, and carbon capture and storage. Previously, Jane served as the campaigns focal point for CIEL’s cross-program work to address the full life cycle harms of plastic, including co-coordinating the global civil society and rightsholders Coalition engaged in the UN negotiations for a new treaty on plastics.
Since 2011, Jane has been working with communities to address inequality, mitigate harm, and increase justice through organizing for safer environments, better schools, and greater self-determination. Initially focusing on primary and secondary education, she supported and lead teams for charter school networks to redesign data systems and curriculum delivery in her home state of Louisiana until 2016. In 2015, she co-founded a Louisiana organization to support community-driven systems of reuse, refill, and repair and organize with local groups to resist the onslaught of petrochemical development happening there. In 2016, Jane transitioned full-time to environmental campaign and coalition-building work, serving for two years as the Managing Director of Plastic Pollution Coalition before moving to support and lead corporate campaigns, organizing projects, and policy work as part of the Break Free From Plastic (BFFP) movement.
Jane holds a BA (Honours) in International Relations & Politics from the University of Essex and a Master of Public Policy from Georgetown University.
Jane is based remotely in New Orleans, Louisiana, and she is a proud board member of No Waste Louisiana, the Post Landfill Action Network, and the Greater New Orleans Interfaith Climate Coalition.
