President & CEO

CIEL is seeking a bold, charismatic, and collaborative visionary to be its next President and CEO (CEO) to provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the organization. The CEO will work closely with the Board of Trustees, leadership team, staff members, partners, funders, and supporters to advance CIEL’s objectives and ensure the organization’s long-term sustainability.

The Board will look to its next CEO to think creatively and strategically about how to build upon CIEL’s successful 35-year legacy, with a strong reputation among partners for thought leadership, collaboration, and movement building and support delivered through high-quality programs and trusted teams. The CEO of CIEL reports directly to the Board of Trustees and supervises all programs, fundraising, and fiscal functions of the organization and its 60+ person globally dispersed team

Staff Attorney, Climate Financial Strategies

The Staff Attorney, Climate Financial Strategies, is a skilled attorney and effective advocate with relevant experience in the fields of finance, corporate, and/or securities law and a demonstrated commitment to working in the public interest to confront the climate crisis. The Staff Attorney will undertake original legal research and analysis, help design and implement innovative legal strategies for litigation and non-litigation advocacy; support education and advocacy campaigns to raise awareness among financial actors, media, and decision-makers; and mobilize financial actors and institutions to mitigate climate risk, including by reducing their support for fossil fuels.

EU Petrochemicals (Senior) Campaigner

CIEL seeks an EU Petrochemicals Campaigner to 1) monitor the evolution of the EU policy landscape to identify opportunities for intervention and collaboration with the rest of CIEL’s work, 2) build synergies between the work of partners within the Rethink Plastic Alliance and other relevant EU partners on the different EU policy files related to petrochemicals 3) initiate, coordinate, and work with partners to implement an advocacy strategy using policy and other levers to stop petrochemical expansion and advance its managed decline and a just transition in Europe, and 4) develop and advocate around CIEL’s policy proposals on petrochemicals within the EU.

Global Plastics & Petrochemicals (Senior) Campaigner

The Global Plastics & Petrochemicals Campaign Campaigner (or Senior Campaigner) will be responsible for advancing global strategy to stop plastic pollution and to keep fossil fuels in the ground.  The will work alongside other CIEL staff members as well as the Break Free from Plastic’s global coordination team, enabling partners in different regions to lead the implementation of relevant projects and activities, and creating synergies across movements, including with those focused on oil and gas. The position requires work within international coalitions and movements and across time zones, as well as extensive international travel, occasionally for periods of 2+ weeks (health guidance permitting).

Oil and Gas Legal & Campaign Manager

The Oil & Gas Manager will be a committed advocate, experienced lawyer, and enthusiastic team leader eager to help shape the vision and enhance the impact of the Climate & Energy Program as it works to confront fossil-fueled climate destruction, accelerate the transition away from oil and gas, and support affected communities around the world. The manager will line manage staff, including attorneys and campaigners, and oversee CIEL’s efforts to: halt and reverse oil and gas expansion, through targeted legal and policy advocacy, global campaigns, and strategic communications; confront fossil fuel industry efforts to greenwash the impacts of its products and operations; and strengthen the global movement against oil and gas, particularly offshore. The position requires work within international coalitions and across timezones, as well as international travel, occasionally for significant periods.
