FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 12, 2018
CIEL President Carroll Muffett released the following statement:
“In the past 14 months, Rex Tillerson and the Trump Administration have done incalculable damage to the US State Department and to the United States’ standing with partners around the world. They have moved US foreign policy dramatically backward on an array of critical issues ranging from climate change and human rights to the control of global corporate corruption. True to Tillerson’s origins at ExxonMobil, they have consistently elevated oil industry interests over the interests of the United States, its people, and the planet.
“Pursuant to a possible timeshare arrangement agreed before the election, leadership of the State Department will now pass to Koch representative Mike Pompeo. Aside from Tillerson’s heightened exposure to ongoing Exxon investigations and an enhanced risk of diplomacy by tweet-storm, we expect little else to change.
“Whether Pompeo will inherit the Wayne Tracker alias has not been disclosed.”
