My Guide: A Community Resource Guide to REDD+ Rights
My Guide, A Community Resource Guide to REDD+ Rights is a community-ready reference material created by CIEL as a part of our overarching mission to promote and protect human rights in the context of forest governance. Together with our legal database ForestDefender, My Guide serves as an easy-to-access tool with which people of all backgrounds and situations can better defend themselves against potential human rights and environmental violations. My Guide is available here for distribution worldwide in both English and Spanish.
Created in response to a direct request from indigenous communities who requested a more understandable explanation of their rights that could be impacted by REDD+ projects (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation), My Guide outlines basic information related to REDD+, explains a myriad of ways in which REDD+ could affects local communities’ rights, and suggests options for what to do if these rights are violated.
While My Guide certainly does not replace direct legal assistance, access to the information offers all parties a more fair chance in understanding their rights and in pursuing healthy, sustainable lives.
