For twenty five years, CIEL has used the power of law to protect the environment, promote human rights, and ensure a just and sustainable society. One of the most critical issues we work on is climate change. Day in and day out, we work on designing and strengthening the laws and policies to combat climate change while also empowering the most vulnerable communities to defend their rights and resources.
Working on climate change is not easy. Focusing on law and policy can be esoteric. Increasing attention on the human dimensions of climate change is critical to solve the climate challenge and improve the likelihood that measures taken will protect human rights.
Fortunately, a new television series called “YEARS OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY” explores the impacts of climate change on individual lives for a mainstream audience. YEARS not only represents climate change impacts, but also hopes to spur concrete action. Each show in the series calls on viewers like you to demand that major public figures take a stand on climate change. For this first week, Governor Rick Perry of Texas, who has been a leading climate skeptic, is the target.
As we at CIEL continue to link climate change and human rights in our law and policy advocacy work, we hope that YEARS supports our efforts by inspiring real-time change and a new wave of climate champions.
The show officially premiers on April 13th at 10pm on Showtime network. However, you can stream the first episode for free right here!
